We’re thrilled to continue spotlighting the incredible staff members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to shape the future of young minds in Central Alabama! Meet our outstanding Early Childhood Specialist, Lakenya Carrington.
Lakenya has been a part of Childcare Resources for two years, and in that time, she’s made a transformative impact on infant-toddler classrooms at numerous child care provider partners. She guides educators on how to best engage with young learners and expertly helps resolve typical classroom-wide challenges, like biting incidents. Lakenya’s background in teaching allows her to connect with child care providers in ways that make them feel both empowered and supported.

When you aren't helping educators prepare the next generation for success, what can we find you doing?
Most of the time, you’ll find me hanging out with my incredible husband and two daughters. I also enjoy writing, cheering for Alabama football (Roll Tide Roll!), and reading inspirational novels. I love books that empower women and just finished two by Sarah Jakes Roberts—Power Moves and Woman Evolve. I couldn’t recommend them enough!
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? ....and where are you taking us to eat?!
I’m a seafood fan through and through, and if we’re having seafood, you already know we're heading to Cajun Steamers!
Tell us a little bit about what you do at Childcare Resources.
I work with Infant and Toddler programs in the surrounding counties to improve the quality of their classrooms. I have had the pleasure to teach a workshop ahead of one of my center’s NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) reaccreditation visit, and they passed! Currently I work with Elizabeth Perry Rushton Child Development Center, Beyond Blessed Child Care, and Montclair Early Learning Center.
What Is your favorite thing about working at Childcare Resources?

"I enjoy working hands-on with teachers and directors. My passion has always been children, so knowing that the materials I am coaching and modeling are to benefit the students brings me joy."
