Birmingham Talks believes that lifelong literacy starts at birth and that conversations with adults are the most powerful tool to build babies' brains. Research shows us that young children need to hear 21,000 words a day for optimal brain development, but many children in our city hear as few as 6,000. Birmingham Talks partners with child care centers and preschools to provide technology, coaching, and curriculum to empower teachers to create a robust verbal environment in their classroom.
