‘Champions for Children’ Breakfast Raises Over $90,000 for Early Childhood Education

Childcare Resources’ Fifth Annual Breakfast Event In-Person and Online

Nearly 300 philanthropic-minded business professionals and passionate community members came together in-person and virtually on Thursday, April 21st for Childcare Resources’ fifth annual Champions for Children Charity Breakfast. Childcare Resources, a nonprofit organization in Birmingham and United Way of Central Alabama partner agency makes quality child care happen by providing information, education, and assistance to families, providers of child care, and the community.

During the one-hour breakfast program, attendees learned about the history of Childcare Resources and the incredible impact the agency has had on the community for nearly 40 years. Guests also learned the story about Faith, a working mother of three in our community, and how she first learned about Childcare Resources when she was looking for assistance with starting her own child care business. Five years later, Faith’s decision to advance her education led her back to Childcare Resources for child care financial assistance for her children. Faith is now employed at Childcare Resources and works each day to help hundreds of families just like hers.

“As an organization that has been around for nearly 40 years, the roots of our mission in the Greater Birmingham community run very deep – it is not uncommon to meet someone who has been impacted by our agency or is connected to our organization in some way. Faith’s story represents just one of hundreds of families in our community that we cross paths with every day,” said Joan Wright, Executive Director of Childcare Resources.

Rick Morris, Owner and President of R2 Consulting, Head of Projects at GrowthDay, and Childcare Resources Board Chair, reminded guests that their support of the agency helps to change lives. “Children are one of our greatest natural resources, and the education and experiences they have from a young age are what most impact their trajectory in life,” said Morris. “Children need support and opportunity to build a sturdy foundation for the rest of their lives, and the work Childcare Resources is doing is critical for so many families as the never-ending need for quality child care continues to grow.”

The Champions for Children Charity Breakfast generated more than $90,000 in one-time gifts and multi-year gifts during the one-hour event, with additional in-kind support to help further the agency’s mission. The event was generously sponsored by IBERIABANK/First Horizon Bank, Alabama Power, Borgosz Enterprises, the Junior League of Birmingham, Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, and CoWello, with additional support from Defining Moments Media, Encore Special Events, The Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook, and XVI.
