Information for Parents
Childcare Resources provides services to assist parents in locating and affording quality child care and support parents as they balance work and family responsibilities.
Resource and Referral is a free service that guides families through the process of locating quality child care. Finding such child care can be difficult especially in central Alabama, where there are more than 700 child care programs. Our trained and dedicated staff understand that this is an important decision for families. We help parents narrow down their child care choices based on their specific needs, location, kind of care, etc., and provide educational materials so they’ll know how to recognize quality child care when they visit potential providers.
Supplemental Child Care Program (SCCP) assists eligible parents with paying for the cost of child care. Based on a sliding scale related to family size and income, parents pay a portion of the cost of care and Childcare Resources pays a portion. Families must live in our central Alabama service area of Blount, Jefferson, Shelby and Walker Counties and meet eligibility requirements. Parents can choose from any legally operating child care provider that meets DHR minimum standards and is willing to accept payment from Childcare Resources.
Parent Education @ Work is offered at no charge to area businesses at their worksite. The program is designed to support working parents of young children. Our parent education coordinator leads group sessions on various topics such as child development, healthy parenting practices and building stronger families. She also provides educational resources to parents to assist them in being the best parent they can be.
